A few careful habits can help you look after your jewellery. Because materials, finishes and settings differ, product-specific instructions should always take priority over this general guide.

General care

• Put jewellery on after perfume, cosmetics, lotions and hair products have dried.
• Remove jewellery before bathing, swimming, exercising, sleeping or household cleaning.
• Avoid contact with chlorine, salt water, detergents and abrasive products.
• Handle chains, clasps, posts and settings gently. Do not force a catch or reshape a piece.
• After wear, wipe the piece gently with a clean, soft, dry cloth.
• Store pieces separately in a dry place to reduce rubbing, tangling and scratching.

Sterling silver

Sterling silver can tarnish naturally. A silver polishing cloth may be suitable for plain, unplated silver. Do not use it on plated surfaces, intentionally oxidised finishes, delicate stones or pearls unless the product instructions say it is suitable.

Gold vermeil and other plated finishes

Plated finishes may change gradually with use. The rate varies with contact with skin, moisture, products, friction and storage, so it is not possible to give one timetable that applies to every person or piece. Avoid polishing products and abrasive cloths, which can remove or alter the surface finish.

Solid gold, diamonds and gemstones

Solid gold can scratch or deform, and stone settings can be affected by impact. Some gemstones are sensitive to heat, moisture, chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning. Follow the product information and contact us before cleaning if you are unsure.
